Ultimate Purpose and Selflessness (a narrative in philosophy)
Ultimate Purpose and Selflessness
by ben yosaf aperitif
When one aims to carry out an endeavor, he hopes to gain by
it, yet there is a force inside humankind that impels many to act with selfless
intentions and actions, and then, we ask, in this case, what is the purpose
that motivates? One is able to do good
things in order to bring about happiness into one’s life, from prolonging and
deepening friendship to a romantic relation to working a career to committing
oneself to further education and learning.
On the other hand, some commit themselves to lives of service, volunteering
their time, even boldly risking their lives, for the willingness to bring about
a good change in the world and betterment to the life of their neighbors and
comrades. In this latter case, the
lesser common one, what is it that motivates us? It is my thesis that to live a life of
selfless giving, one upholds in herself a stately framework of fulfilled and
grateful, overall happy, harmony, that extends out of hard-work, loyalty to
family, peers and others, good deeds, and perseverance and commitment, from whence
comes the hope, wishes, and dreams to bring about good will and good endeavors
to enact more happiness and good days for the people beside herself, a positive
yearning which enables her to feel an alacrity of stately peace, fulfillment,
and gratitude for life, love, and God.
